I liked how careful and hesitant they were at the beginning and by the end that model girl was sucking the rib bone! And how that thin piece of brisket was like the thickest piece of meat they ever seen. I guess they don’t eat big steaks in korea.

Korean BBQ relies on marinating thinly cut beef and grilling quickly as opposed to American slow cooking or smoking. In any case, it doesn’t surprise me Koreans like American BBQ (if you think about it, how can anyone really dislike American BBQ since it’s so varied in itself?).
Biggest differences are definitely going to be how its served - you don’t normally get whole racks of ribs, big fuck-off slices of brisket and massive porterhouses. Normally, beef is cut into thin slices, marinated, and then cooked quickly (short rib for galbi and sirloin for bulgogi).

They don’t eat big steaks but they have GLORIOUS pork belly, glbi and bulgogi. Eat that with Soju and it’s an amazing time.
The smaller slices of meat also allow for longer socializing over alcohol with friends over the grill. It’s an awesome time.

I’m guessing they used a vinegar based recipe if the girls are saying it’s too sour. I honestly prefer a good spicy Kansas City style sauce for my BBQ.

N Carolina style? Vinegar and pepper based (not tomato based, never tomato based!!!!) sauce for the pulled pork, and dry rub for the ribs.

I had a tutor in high school who was a vegan and used to always tell me, “If you knew what happens at a slaughterhouse, you’d never eat meat again.” I took him up on that challenge, we visited a local hog butcher, and then I ate a Wendy’s triple bacon cheeseburger twenty minutes later.
Not that I support animal cruelty or some of the other shady practices that happen on factory farms, but I know where my foods comes from. I know it had a face. I’m good with it. It’s delicious.
Long story short, remember the immortal words of Troy McClure: “Don’t kid yourself, Jimmy. If a cow ever got the chance, he’d eat you and everyone you care about!”

BBQ varies hugely as you travel throughout the country. Carolina BBQ usually uses vinegar, which I don’t like at all. I think Georgia and South Carolina use mustard bases. Tennessee uses dry rubs rather than sauces. Texas is hotter, while the midwest is sweeter than Texas I think. I like thicker, spicier sauces with a bit of sweetness. The best BBQ I had was in Lincoln, Nebraska, which is nothing like the Carolina BBQ I usually get when visiting family in Charlotte.

As someone of Korean descent I can attest to them not really being a fan of the pulled pork sourness at first. Although we eat kimchi, most people eat it with a starch to balance things out, not straight up.
Although. American Pork Ribs are the shit. What styles of BBQ do you recommend I try? I’ve only had American-Style pork ribs from my Texan friend, and grilled meats from my Brazilian father.

To be fair, it is an edited video. I’m sure not every person who tries American, or Korean, barbecue for the first time thinks it is wonderful. I definitely have relatives who think American-style French food — which is everywhere around here — is very exotic, and anything beyond Italian too adventurous. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were many Koreans who felt the same way about new and unfamiliar foreign foods.

try every kind of rib you can its a very regional thing in the us with different styles. some do dry rubs thats it, some will sauce the ribs some places bbq sauce isnt even served some place just use salt pepper and the smoking etc.
My favorites are pork ribs dry rub, brisket texas style and beef ribs.
I suggest trying to find places that do it very simply and try to eat the meat simply. And then choose your favorite and add the sauces or whatever place you like that pre sauces. I think staying away from places that have really complicated sauces with rasperry and stuff in them and pre sauce would be good until you know what you like and the styles you like.
